I want to replace the mortar in a log wall inside our old house. The gaps are wide ( 4-8") and backed by small stones set on edge between the logs. I want to finish the logs first and then fill the chinks.
Questions: What kind of mortar should I use? Do I need to screw in some screen first? or just press it into the stones? What about slump? How to get a smooth finish on the mortar? Is there a tool that would help?
Any hints, help or ideas would be great!!!
