allright, new house almost finished.
i had 8 rooms prewired for stereo speaker with volume control for each room.
all 16 pair of wirings (2 per room) terminate in my closet as planed.
now it is time to shop for the system itself.
looking for a good stereo receiver that has of course AM/FM and several input to add on later CD ect....
is anyone bough/ installed such receiver that can power up 8 rooms reasonably?
if so what model, any amps?

Get one of these

Any kind of audio distribution or speaker selector will work - as long as your volume controls are impedance matching, you don't need an impedance matching selector/distributor.
Of course, you'll also want something with at least 8 outputs.

Just don't do something crazy like buy an expensive 100 pound, 200 watts per channel amp and hook it up to 20 ga (cheap) speaker wire.

These things can never be answered by any one individual. It is 100% personal preferance on what you buy. Myself, I always buy high end because they last the long, sound great, and you get a much much higher resale value. Going with a mid end brand such as sony, denon will hurt you in the end. My best advice would be to splurge and buy a good preamp. Rotel is a very reasonably priced preamp (1,200). There preamps have 'Multi-inputs' so that eliminates any speaker selection box. Everything is controlled in the pre-amp and better yet, remote control :). When you sell your preamp 2 years later, you will get 70-80% of your money back. If you buy a sony, denon, your only looking at 30% return value.
As for the speakerwire- running cheap cables is ok because most likely your prewired rooms are not good cables. What is the point in throwing on cardas cables 8 foot in range when your hooking up to generic inwall wire?
Match all your components and speaker wire accordingly. If you buy a decent system, buy decent wire. If you buy a good system, buy good wire.
