I purchased a Hitachi 57S500 rear projection TV in May. In July it started to act up, losing picture and sound all at once after about 30 mins of operation (power indicator light stays on). Over a couple of weeks, the time until shutdown was reduced to 5 minutes. Hitachi is stumped, as is the repair technician. He has not been able to reproduce the problem in his shop (yet). I tried 3 different DVD players, various inputs and cables, but still same problem. If the set is turned off for a while, it will work fine, again for about 5-10 minutes, then shuts down again. Anyone have an idea (or two)? Thanks.

This should be pretty much of a no-brainer to have your set repaired.
Your TV is still in warranty so I would expect the service center to just replace a suspect board and be on their merry way.
Have you bought a extended warranty plan?
you might need it down the road on this one.
Some TV's come out of the manufacturing process with defects and most are fixed at the plant your's seems to manufactured on a Friday.
