I'm upgrading the kitchen in my home and am considering wood laminiate flooring. I have a few questions about laminates.
- I like the look of high gloss wood finish and have not found that look in laminates yet. Are there any products with a high gloss look that are recommended? I've heard that laminates are highly scratch resistant, so I am thinking that the high gloss finish would wear well on this type of flooring, is that correct?
- I am assuming that the flooring would be installed under the refridgerator and dishwasher. Is that correct? If not, how would the flooring be ended in those locations?
- There is a sliding glass patio door in the eating area. Are there any special considerations for laying the flooring in front of the doorway. Does it matter which way the flooring is run?
- The existing flooring is linolium and it has some seams that are beginning to buckle and break. I would rather avoid pulling up the old flooring, but am concerend that a few missing edges or some current/future curling where the glue gives out will be a problem for the new flooring. Any thoughts/experiences on this issue would be very helpful.
- Are there any other issues that a newbie like me should be aware of before making the purchase and beginning installation?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have not seen a high gloss laminate either.
The flooring gets installed under the fridge, but a built in dishwasher, just under the front legs or up to the front legs.
An endcap along the glass door, so expansion space can be kept.
Cut out any curls in the vinyl and install the flooring.
Fully read, and totally understand the installation instruction, before beginning.

I am responding to one of your questions based on my experience alone...
We purchased and installed a Kronoswiss laminate. It has a sheen to it and we love it (personal preference). It has been in for 6 months (the kid's rooms) and we've had no problems. Still looks great!
You can get free samples sent to you online, thus no risk to check out the finish.
