I've quickly scanned previous posts, but haven't seen this (more than likely) simple issue addressed, but here goes: In replacing a ceiling light, I've got four wires on the new light (two white; two black) and a ground, but only a single black, white, and ground coming from the ceiling outlet. How do I hook up the new fixture? Do I twist the ends of the two black fixture wires to the one black source wire, etc? Do I just ignore one of the black & white wires that are on the fixture? Thanks for any help!

You need to connect all the blacks together and all the whites together and all the grounds together.

Make sure you use wire nuts.

Thanks, MGB, but I connected the whites together; blacks together, and wrapped the thin ground around the metal box and---nuthin. I don't see how even I could have messed this one up............

The wiring you have described is correct. So the problem is somewhere else. Is the breaker on? Is the wall switch on? Is the fixture broken? Are the bulbs good? Did you make good connections? Any accidental shorts?
Double-check everything.

Success! Thanks, I just needed to recheck and rethread the wiring into the nut securely. Now the kids have a light, and I'll just sniff around for any smoke coming from the fixture. Thanks you guys for the help! :)
