Because we have no basement, my heating and central AC ducts flow out of a room behind the garage that houses the heating unit and the water heater. From there, they flow into the ceiling of the garage and then up through the rest of the house. This is our first summer in this house, and we have noticed during the hotter and more humid days, small puddles of water on the garage floor, from condensation that drips off of the AC ducts.

What do I need to do to either prevent this condensation or at least minimize it. My ducts are not insulated, but I am not sure if they need to be.

Please advise...thanks

Out there they should be for sure, if not. You can look around and see if you can get some fiberglass duct board an cut it to cover the duct there . Or can you put some R- 13 fiberglss around it with the paper side out.

I just bought a house and noticed water stains on the ceiling. Sure enough, a piece of insulation had fallen off the bottom of the A/C duct and condensation was dripping (this is Houston!) onto the ceiling. So I just wrapped duct tape around the duct to put the fiberglass(?) duct board back into place.

Is this standard practice? The fiberglass was pretty wet when I taped it up. I'm hoping it will dry out and not disintegrate. If taping is not allowed, how do you fasten to the duct? With glue?

Thanks...

The just duct tape wont hold up in the attic. Use that aluminum tape they have , There is a iron on tape we use on the fiberglass duct that is very . It is a aluminum kind also. If you have metal duct under the glass yes try some glue Its all in you want the outside to be sealed so it is a V/B to the cold metal.
