Designing Kitchens and Bathrooms - What type of faucet do I need?

I have a 100 year old vanity that has a marble top along with a very large backsplash, also marble. In front of the backsplash about 8" is another peice of marble that goes the legnth of the vanity and is about 16" high. It looks like this is where the faucet was once installed. The problem is I am not sure if I need a wall mount or a deck mount faucet set. The wall mount faucets I have seen have a rough in that looks like it is for attatching 2x4 studs. I simply want to install a hot and cold faucet with a spout coming out of the marble (similar to a regular deck mount but vertical). I would rather use the stainless supply lines instead of sweating the pipes... I am thinking a deck mount set but then it does not come with a spout that is straight.. Your thoughts appreciated. Your advice and thoughts would be appreciated.

There are numerous styles of non fixed manifold faucets and spouts available, but fewer plumbers able to configuration apply. Time to go shopping.

If you're mounting a faucet on a wall, a deck mount vanity faucet spout will be aimed toward the wall, as you know. You have to use a faucet made for wall installation. Check at a plumbing supply house.
Also, it is not advisable (and I think that it's against code) to install compression fittings inside a wall to attach flex lines to. You will be doing so at your own risk, but it's your call. It's your vanity.

I have shut off valves coming out of the wall at this time... I am looking to use flex lines from the shut off's, up through the marble top and into the cavity between the backsplash and front peice. Access to this area is gained by removing a marble shelf that caps it... So what I am gaetting in reading the two posts is use deck mount faucets and find a wall mount spout from a plumbing supply house.

Exactly.
With non manifold deck mount faucets are short hoses which through standard fittings can be adapted to any of a variety of tub spouts available.
So all that remaines is to deside the fixtures, there placement and drilling the marble.
