I have recently purchased a home with an inactive Ademco system installed in it( I am waiting for the manual to come in the mail, unfortunately I do not have the model # handy) When I took my door bell covers off to clean/ fix them I noticed that they have batteries in them, also I can not find any chime in the house except for the alarm system bell. Do these switches operate my the bell on my security system in some remote way, or am I way off here? Sorry information is so vague. Any help or speculation is greatly appreciated.

Probably not. If they are recognizably doorbell buttons, they were probably for one of the wireless doorbells sold at most home centers. The previous residents may have packed up and taken the receiver (most simply plug in), or it may have died long ago.

Thank you Ron, I was glad to see you were one who replied to my post, I have read several of your replies in this topic field and consider you quite knowledgable. Well, I will replace the batteries I guess and let you know what happens, thanks again for your guidance

Are you sure they are door bells? And not door sensors? A door bell will have a button on it - a door sensor will have 2 parts, a transmitter (the part with the battery) and a magnet (about 1" long and has no electronic parts, just a magnet.)
More than likely, what you have is 5816 wireless sensors installed for your alarm system. They will take 3V Lithium CR123A batteries.
I would bet you're looking at the door sensors thinking they are door bells - or maybe it's just a matter of mistaken terminology.
If you can get the cover off, you should be able to find a model number on them somewhere - tell us what that number is.
Good luck!

It definitely has a button in the center of it, but thanks for the reply safewatch. Unfortunately, I had a weekend full of more important things than doorbells and batteries so I have yet to replace the batteries. Thank you both for your responses, I will update when have news.

If that's the case, then the doorbells probably have nothing to do with the alarm system. At least, I've never heard of an Ademco doorbell system - doesn't mean they don't have one.
More than likely, you have a wireless doorbell system somewhere - or, maybe it's been removed. If you can find out what kind of doorbell it is, then you can probably get a chime for from Home Depot or Lowe's.
Good luck!
