i'm making a "bench" for an eat-in area in our kitchen. the bench we're planning will be two wide flat cabinets (total area of 72 x 24) set on a low frame and topped with a "homemade" cushion. we're going to wrap padding around a plank the size of the bench, and then cover that with fabric. my question is: what is the best kind of wood to use for this cushion? will a simple plywood sheet (1/2"?) work? do we have to worry about the plank warping? if plywood works, what's the best type to use for this project? i'll probably screw the board/cushion into the cabinets from underneath/inside the cabinets.
thanks!
thanks!

If you have cross members (parallel to 24") then plywood will be fine.
I would use 3/4" Ply or 23/32" thick for a seat. Make sure its a good flat piece when you buy it. It doesnt have to look pretty if its for a seat. Most plywood has one good side.
