What is the best solvent to use when removing carpet glue from concrete? Muratic acid or is there a better product? I know this is still going to take some 'elbow grease', but what is the best product you recommend?

I would look for a solvent for the glue rather than an acid. Is the concrete sealed?

Muratic Acid won't touch Carpet mastic. Like was mentioned a solvent would have to be used. Best to try and remove as much as possible using a Razor floor scaper, then resort to the solvent.

Thanks for the tip on the muratic acid. I assume this would eat the concrete, but not the glue.
I'm a real dummy, so what is a solvent? Is this something most hardware stores carry? Is it specifically called glue solvent? Help!!

Paul- I had old Astro-turf type of outdoor carpeting glued on my concrete patio, and I got it off by renting a floor buffer and going over the floor with coarse steel wool (possibly if I had to do it again, I'd use a stiffer wire brush brush-type pad if one is available). Hope this helps.

I'm going to be replacing carpeting in the basement which is glued to the concrete floor. Does the old glue need to be removed if new carpeting is going to be glued to the floor? The concrete is not sealed, if that makes any difference.
