Hi everyone~

My boyfriend and I just moved into a new apartment and we have a sliding glass door. The interior glass was broken, while the exterior is still totally intact. From reading the threads so far, I'm guessing I'll have to replace the entire glass unit. I haven't found the model number on the door yet. However, because we just moved in and because of the way it broke (we received some horrible news and he hit the door), I'd rather not involve the landlord or building owner, unless we can come up with a better excuse for the broken glass than extreme emotional distress, which sounds stupid unless you were actually there. Is there any way for us to replace it on our own? And would it be safe for us to just leave it like that (one pane of glass) for a few weeks if necessary?

Thanks!

do you have kids? if so it is not safe. If not duct tape the interor edge or the broken glass ( several times ) this will help the 2 of you from getting cut. the easiest way to do this is call a glass shop to measure it.There are several overall thickness of insolated glass ie 1/2 5/8 rarely but possiable 7/8 if newer most common 1 inch "Over all thickness = measuerment outside edge of glass to inside edge of glass." If this is a custom size it will have to be ordered, if not most glass Co.'s keep some stock sizes handy. Replacing the glass I will need more info. Is it older? New ? Metal or Vinyl framing? sliding section or fixed section?

I can help you figure out how to replace the glass once I know the above.
