Plumbing and Piping - Cannot Remove Compression Ring off of Copper going toward the toilet

I noticed that the shut off valve to the toilet was leaking so I took everything apart, but I was unable to remove the compression ring off of the copper. I want to replace the whole shut off valve. How can I remove that compression ring without damaging the copper pipe? I would really appreciate your help.

Tom,
I doubt that you will be able to get a compression ring off without damaging the copper tubing. The best thing to do is to replace everything EXCEPT that ring and its flange nut and use them to attach back to your new cutoff valve, OR replace the tubing. Good Luck!

Hi Tom They make a puller for the task you described. Take the old guy's advice and leave the nut and ring on. Make sure the new angle stop has the same threads as the old one and use a little grease when you put the new one on. Good Luck Woodbutcher
