Hi guys

I am going nuts with air cons. I have a motel and have to replace window units from time to time. 5-10 k btu are the norm here. The new units I have been buying over the last several years are all !#%@#@#@$%^&*^:~+_)!!!!!!!!!!

I am lucky to get a year out of the things. I have tried to mix and match but all brands seem to be $hit. What may be up??
I am a pessimist to the bone and have a true belief in planned obsolescence but this is taking things to far. The problem is not confined to any one unit but the new units have been replacing the new units in a limited # of rooms. Is it possible that I am having a surge problem or some such or are these wonderful Korean models just problematic. It has been a wide range of problems. No pattern

Can you suggest a fit model or are we doomed to a never ending cycle of lousy durable goods?? Or is it just my current bad luck and I should find a low maintenance lifestyle like a small cave??

Thanks men

Rob

What style of unit you have? PTAC's or regular window shakers? Where are you located? In the US or elsewhere?

Also what's in the area of the condensor? (The part that sticks outside)

Yes
They are window units and there are no obstructions on the exterior of the building. The current problem in a 10 k is the fan motor will not run unless I start it spinning. But it does not work at all now. This unit is kenmore 10 k 2 months old. Maytags 2 out of three broke within year 5 k , Fedders 2 out of 4 broke in 1.5 years 5and 10 k models.

Thanks again

I use a lot of Friedrich units and have very little trouble with them. www.friedrich.com The 10k you're having trouble with: try testing the fan motor capacitor first, you might just have a bad cap which is an inexpensive part.
