I have purple coneflowers. The petals are drying up and turning brown. I don't know if they are getting too much water or not enough. Does anyone know why this is happening?

As the flowers age, they fade and the petals drop. Turning dark prior to dropping seems normal. Just clip off the fading flowers.
Cut them down to the ground when they die back in winter. This will give them a fresh start in the spring.
