I just installed a mid-size Sears window A/C unit in our bedroom (10,000 BTU I believe), and, quite frankly, I'm a bit surprised about the "extensions" on each side of the unit. What poor quality - mine are so flimsy and poor-fitting that I would guess I'm losing about 25% of my cooling from the unit. (And I do have the unit installed and sitting properly on the sill.)
Question: Does anyone have any suggestions or do-it-yourself solutions to fix this problem? Someone at work mentioned to me to use styrofoam core board (like from Office Depot or Staples). Another person suggested just "stuffing it" with cardboard.
But I suspect that there must be some kits available, or better solutions than I've listed above.
Thanks in advance.

Look as see you can get a better foam board to use from Lowes are Home depot. for on the window side.

Good advice - thanks.
And I don't want to get too fancy - because I intend to remove the unit during the winter.
I guess I'm thinking Foam core boards and some duct tape. Not too pretty, but it should do the job. Unless someone has info on a custom kit of some sort?
