The exterior bricks on my chimney where they angle in as the chimney becomes less wide were falling apart. I hired a couple of guys to "fix it" and all they did was cut out part of the bricks to make it a smooth angle instead of the stair step angle. They then slapped a few layers of something on this and needless to say it looks terrible. I didnt even realize they were finished because it looks so bad. What can I do to remedy this problem? Thanks for any help.

A brick mason would be the very professional to handle this sort of work.

What the People you hired did would be acceptable fix if done correctly. If they did a shoddy job then I would not pay. Like chfite mentioned you may want to look for a reputable Mason Contractor

Note: If I were doing a similar Project and planned on changing the look of the Structure as was done here, I would consult the Home owners on any changes I had in mind.
