My eval coil is mounted on top of my heating unit. When the ac is running I can feel cold air coming from copper lines going into the coil. I am getting ready to clean the coil this weekend and I was wondering should I try to seal up every spot on the unit where I feel cold air coming from.

Where is the unit located? If it's within the heated/cooled space don't bother to seal anything. Otherwise, you can seal up many of the holes with furnace tape, but don't do anything that's going to make it difficult to service or replace the system later. Be careful not to seal areas that are meant to be open, like air vents around the chimney or the air vent in the condensate drain pipe.

Dont use duct tape around the furnace and coil use the aluminum foil kind.

Doug,
It is located in my garage. Even though the air leaking out of the system was small, I was trying to avoid wasting in my garage. It feels like the air is coming through the rubber gaskets located on the eval coil box.

Might stuff some foam in around the pipes. It may seem like a lot of air is comming out, but the waste is probably negligable. It isn't worth a lot of trouble. Kind of like putting the CF bulb in my wife's desk light. Probably didn't save me more than a penney, but it cost me an ear. :p

Almost forgot, Ed, definitely no duct tape on the furnace. I don't even use duct tape on ducts. That's why I said furnace tape. Not sure what the official name for foil tape is, but at my house we call it scream tape because that's what I do when one of the kids uses it to decorate his handle bars (Covered the rust. Could have bought 2 new sets of handle bars for what it cost in tape!).

Thanks, I was planning on cleaning it out this weekend and just wanted to make sure. By the way, what is wrong with using duct tape?

It burns - not suitable on a furnace. It also tends to loose it's grip after a while and fall off. Although I'm told the more expensive grade doesn't do that, I haven't seen it.
