Disconnect the battery, then the ac power. Withing 50 seconds of power up, press * + # at the same time. This should (assuming no program lockout by the previous installer) kick it into program mode. Press #20. The key pad will then read back the master code. Exit with *99.

Ok, lets try this again. When you did powerup * + #, the next thing you should have seen is a 20 on the screen. If you did not see this, then you were not in program mode. It is very possible that local access programming has been locked out of this panel by the prior installer using download software.

If you saw a 20; the next key strokes should be #20. This will display the master code 1 digit at a time with a "ping" after each number and a triple ping after the final number. If you heard these sounds, and saw only sixes, then the master code is 6666.

the "no ac" thing is just an indicator that the system is not in normal running mode.

Ademco programming procedures have a bit of a learning curve to them.

Yup, your magic number is 0276. On these older ademco panels master code and go to program code are the same number. A lot of people will use the master code to program a user code (the ademco/honeywell website has user manuals for free download, not installer manuals, though) for everyday use, and seal the master code in an envelope in some safe place.

Assuming that it never had wireless, check 09 can also mean keyswitch is enabled but not connected. It is possible that you may have inadvertantly turned on either option when you were in program mode. I don't have my copy of the manual handy, but I think that if you go to program (master code + 8 + 0) then check option 22 you will likely find that there is a 1 instead of a 0. There is a similar line for wireless, but I don't have the program map handy to give you specifics.

Disarming all ademco style systems is command based (code + off[1])

You could always try defaulting the panel. You will have to reprogram it, but of course, you'll have to program a new one anyway. Might be worth a try?

Good luck!

Exit program mode with *99. This will allow reentry via MC+8+00

With all ademco products, your keystrokes have to be in a continuous string. More than about 1-1/2 seconds hesitation between keystrokes kicks you out of whatever you are trying to do.

I have another question can you connect 2 door contacts in tandem to 1 zone, or do you have to run a new line to the control panel for that contact. Thanks (whlman500)

Yup, you sure can. Most likely your windows are already done that way. The wires just need to be tied together so that the switches are in series (not parallel). Just remember that if you tap a zone that has a delay, the new opening will also have that delay.
