We are trying to antique some mirror tiles (12 x 12). The effect we want is to make them aged or smokey. We have tried Mauratic acid without much sucess

Any thoughs would be appreciated

I've acheived the look I think you are after by lightly fogging the face of a mirror with paint & an airbrush but I believe you could use spray cans just as well. Clear paint sprayed VERY lightly over the face of the mirror will give you a rippled, imperfect, effect & it will yellow slightly over time. This is a trial & error sort of thing but you can always scrape the paint off if you don't like the look. I believe that spray shellac would yellow more & more quickly than clear paint. Antique mirror which looks smokey is made that way in the silvering process. It's going to be impossible to create that effect on a clear silver mirror.
