Hi, Hopefully someone has some insight into my problem. My Bryant compressor fails to shut off when the inside fan turns off. It does however turn off when I turn the system to the off position. I have also noticed several occasions when the compressor has failed to turn on as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

sounds like the contactor is sticking
it is the electrical part that the supply voltage wires terminate into
cheap fix

I thought of the contactor, but since it does shut down with the system to off at the thermostat I wasn't sure. You think it better to replace or to clean in some way? Thanks for your help.

i did not catch that about the tstat, sorry
if the contactor was bad, changing the tstat would not affect it
i would think the tstat is the culprit in that case :D

Well, my indications were wrong. The compressor did not, in fact, turn off with system off. Upon removal and inspection of the contactor unit I found it corroded, decayed, and "stuck". It is definately in need of replacement but after a good cleaning the system is operating as per normal for now. Thanks again for your input, and Semper Fi Marine....

You might want to spray for bugs there around the unit. They just love to get up in the points there of that contactor so they burn out.
