We have an ugly brick fireplace (wall and floor). There are lots of posts here about what/how to cover up ugly brick but I want to remove it altogether. We were given a beautiful custom made wood hearth which doesn't fit properly against the floor and the wall with the red brick sticking out. Is it just too impossible to remove bricks from a fireplace? Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated! (Dimensions are: wall=4inches deep [one brick] x 40 in. high x 58 in. wide. floor=1ft. x 6 ft.)
