A friend of mine told me today he is getting a Ducane upflow natural gas furnace as a replacement for his 18 year old furnace. Don't know any more details right now. I've never heard of Ducane, is it a reputable brand he could expect to last 15-20 years?

www.ducanehvac.com is their web site. They are affiliated with Lennox. If properly installed and maintained they will get a long life out of it.

i have a few things to say on this, from personally selling ducane for about a year or so
5 year warranty on all parts
good, you will need it
affilliated with lennox is correct, in fact owned by them....period. a "builders grade" at best
i replaced 11 ducane upflow gas furnace heat exchangers in a 3 year period
they make terriffic gas grills though

Thank you for the replies. The person who is getting the Ducane is elderly and getting it and the installation for free as part of a public energy assistance program. I had a feeling it was a builder's grade, and one can't complain about that for sure when its free. I'll make sure he keeps the warranty information close by.
Do you know the average age of those 11 Ducanes with failed heat exchangers?

The Furnace was installed this past week and it turns out it isn't a Ducane. It is branded "Gibson" and manufactured by Nordyne. The model number is RC 92+ upflow. One year warranty. Anyone have experience with these? TIA

It's a builders model but free is free right. As long as she keeps the filters changed every 30 - 90 days depending on how dirty they get "have her use the $5.00 pleated filters" and gets it serviced annually by a pro she should get plenty of use out of it.

Thanks for the reply. They have an electronic air cleaner installed that has worked well, and they take care good care of it with respect to changing the filters as recommended. I was mostly concerned with possible faulty parts associated with this brand, but I'm hoping the lack of response in this respect means it will last a number of years without trouble.

funny, my dealer that no longer sells ducane now sells gibson! i have put a few in, low end, i believe if the a/c is replaced without the coil, warranty is void
not sure about their furnaces, i do like the style though, easy to service
