I want to paint my kitchen cupboards. They have an extremely smooth finish. Can I just sand them and use that primer Grip and then paint.?

Sounds reasonable!
A fine sanding 1st, all in the same direction, the full length of the doors, then prime (let dry a good time..) and paint should work out.

Be sure to clean them thoroughly to remove all the grease, grit, and grime that invariably accumulates in the kitchen. Mineral spirits will remove this sort of contaminant. Sanding will not necessarily remove these accumulations. If they are left, the primer will not adhere well. Consequently, the paint job will fail. Proper preparation of the surface to be painted is of paramount importance.
So clean, sand, prime, and paint. Good tool and materials make all the difference.
Hope this helps.
