I would like to cover a brick fireplace hearth with granite tiles. Can I sand the bricks a little then level them with thinset, or do they need to be removed? Thanks :)

Yes,you can stick the tile to the brick as long as the face of the surround is flat.If you talking about the mortar joints then you do not have to sand them to make them flat the thinset will take care of the uneveness of those,but if the face is very irregular then you will have to make that smooth :cool:
