Flooring Tile - What is the best way...

to remove vinyl flooring and prepare the plywood subfloor for ceramic tiles?

How do I get the backing material and glue off the floor? The floor is level, so hopefully I won't need to put anything on top of it?

Is there a layer of luan or other substrate?or is the vinyl dirctly on the subfloor?If unsure take out a heat register and see what is between the vinyl and the subfloor,there should be a layer of some kind of 1/4 something there,if so then it may be easier to remove that layer of plywood than try to get the backing off the floor, you would have to cut around the cabinets if they were installed over the vinyl but that is a minor problem.If it is glued directly to the subfloor then you be better off leaving it and going over it, if it is not a cushioned back vinyl. get back to us and let us know what you find out :cool:

If it is over concrete, wet mop and start scraping with a 4 inch wide flooring razor scraper. Buy an extra pack of replacement blades.

If over a wood subfloor, the Backerboard CBU panels installed with thinset mortar, before the tile goes down will take care of it.

If I want to lay down a tile floor down on a concrete slab with 2 layers of Vinyl flooring over it. What is the best method of lifting the vinyl floor?
also how do I prep the concrete slab to lay down the tile?
