We are putting weed fabric down in the area around the house in preparation for gravel. I have several Hostas in the beds now. It would be easier to trim the Hostas back, then lay the fabric, and cut out the areas for the Hostas to grow.
The question is: Is it to early in the year to cut back Hostas? If cut, will they grow back this year? Will they grow back next year?

You could roll the fabric up to the hosta, cut an X in it, lay it over the plant and trim around the base, and save cutting the plants.

The problem is, the plants are BIG. 2-4 feet across. And the stems are only about 6-8 inches.
I think I will try cutting the X first and see how it goes. If it is too much trouble then I will trim them. I just hope they come back.
