Hiya gang, I have the following sistuation that is occuring. I have a performa dryer by maytag, that is blowing the thermal fuse about monthly. The high limit switch never opens, just the input power thermal switch. I notice that my outdoor flapper is damaged by a fallen limb.( door is broken off) Could this consistant failure of the theral fuse be because of an obstruction in the vent hose( i have the old pastic flexable type, could that be causing the dryer too overheat?. Any ideas would be appreachiated. thanks, ricvice

Venting is very important to a dryer and could be most if not all of your problem. First off never use plastic venting, its not really safe to use on dryers. Second, all the vent should be 4 inch and the vent cap outside should be the biggest you can get to allow air from the dryer to flow freely through it. Third, every 90 degree elbow equals 5 foot of vent length and you should never exceed 40 foot of vent total, without a booster fan. Now you may have another problem causing this, but I would fix the venting first then see how it goes. If the vent replacement doesn't help you should check your operating thermostat or it is sometimes called a cycling t-stat. It could be getting stuck and causing the t-fuse to blow. Also check the element to see if it is grounded to its own shell. If it was it could heat somewhat when the dryer is off causing the t-fuse to blow. Hope this helps. Doc E
