My bathrooms have ceramic tile fixtures (TP holders, toothbrush, shop, towel bars). I've noticed that my guest bath must have had one, bc there was a patch job in the same place where there is one in my MB. I faux painted over the one in the guest bath to conceal the patch job. The previous owners put a TP holder on the side of the vanity.

I would like to remove the one on the wall in my MB and put a holder on this vanity. My MB is larger and I would like to put a towel bar/rings or free standing cabinet in this position (TP holder currently inhibits).

So...suggestions on how to do this cleanly with minimum damage to the drywall? I have spackel, joint compound, primer and leftover matching paint. I just don't want to botch it like they did in the guest bath.

I would break it with a hammer[eye protection] if I couldn't pry it off with whatever. clean up the residue with some sand paper lightly spackle, sand, prime with bin in the spray can and paint. I am assuming that it is not a recessed holder going into a hole in the wall with a blob of plaster on the back of it. In that case same thing just replace hole with sheetrock. I use 3/8 sheetrock and mesh tape since there will be no tapered edges. If you only have 1/2 inch put a 1/16 spacer on whatever you will be attaching the sheetrock to so that the rock is 1/16 below the surface. You will need to go out a fair distance from the patch to make it invisible. Paint the whole wall if you have enough paint.
