We've just bought a victorian terraced house have unearthed an original fireplace in the bedroom (it had been boarded over quite badly). We would like to reinstate the fireplace for decorative purposes only, but we're not sure where to start. I was advised on another forum not to completely block off the flue as this would prevent damp, but i've read on this website that if you don't use a fireplace you should block off the flue. This has left me quite confused! Which is right?

If ianybody has done anything like this before, i'd greatly appreciate any tips or ideas.

Thankyou.
Lisa.

If for sure your not going to use the flue.Id cap it off up on the very top. so rain water and such cant get into it any more.
