The agitator on my Maytag washer stopped working and I noticed a burning rubber smell.
It’s an older model which has two belts underneath the machine. One driving the pump and another drives the agitator. I replaced the agitator belt and cleaned the pulleys thinking that was the problem. The new belt continues to slip. I am wondering if the tensioning springs on the motor need to be replaced or the transmission is sticky (or stuck). What’s the most likely problem? How can I tell if the transmission is the problem?
