I have a Maytag Neptune Dryer MDG4000BWW. The motor is giving me problems. It won't start. When you press the start button it makes a loud buzzing noise. I took the motor drive out cleaned all the lint and dust out lubed the shaft and it worked for about a week. Now I'm back to the same situation.

Is there a particular way to lube the shaft and bearings?

Are they replaceable?

I've found two p/n's, one for a "motor" (33002478) which runs about $125 and the other for a "motor, drive 60HZ" (33002795) that runs $95. The descriptions I found do not explain the difference.

Hello: technojunkie

If lubing the shaft end bearings temporarily solved the problem, chances are the bearings are wornout. Lubing them just made them easier to rotate. For a short time as you determined and often is the case.

End bearings need to be replaced by a pro electric motor repair shop person. Not cost effective. Nor is electric motor overhaul, which would likely also be needed. Other worn internal rotating parts (armature) also are present and cause the same type problem. Motor replacement is the only best solution.

Motor start windings may also be defective or worn. Bearing lube only makes the motor easier to start up but will not resolve the problem for ever. Some models have a starter relay. Worn or sticking contacts cause motor starting problems. Relay replacement is the only permanent solution.

Some machines the start button is the cause. Replacement is the only option.
