Can anyone help? Over the years, large cloudy oval shaped areas have formed in my bedroom furniture glass mirror (they kinda look like huge finger prints). Could the glass mirror just be of inferior quality and subject to discoloration or could something be causing these discolorations? If so, is there anything I can do about them short of replacing the mirror? I have other mirrors in the bedroom that do not have this problem so I have discounted environmental issues causing the damage.

Since mirror is real silver it can tarnish if it is not properly protected with copper plating and paint. It could be an inferior mirror or a defect in manufacturing. There is nothing you can do but replace the mirror.

Check to make sure you have pulled the plastic off your mirror.

As indicated, the cloudy areas are more than likely due to deterioration of the silver backing. Sunlight and high humidity tend to be major causes of the deterioration of the silver backing on mirrors, especially if not high quality.
