We saw a house and we like it. However, it has forced hot
air
The house was recently renovated. IT used to have steam but all radiators
were removed and hot air/air conditioning were put in. My concern is that
the builder used a Weatherking furnace which my guess is a builder grade. In
addition, I do not know if the ducts were done correctly. I have read that
the duct work being done properly is critical.
If I buy the house I would want to replace the furnace in the upstairs of the house with a 2 stage variable speed FURNACE as I like QUIET.
Is this possible?
Here is what somone who works on STEAM told me
One does not re-install an existing furnace that has no return air ducts easily - if even physically possible!
Is this correct?
Any ideas. I just want to be sure I can replace the Weatherking furnace that is in the attic with a 2 stage variable speed furnace.

Someone else said
"You should be able to put in a new gas furnace without any issues. It will
connect to the duct that is there now.
The big issue is making sure the airflow is felt about three feet from the
registers with your hand while being quiet. If it meets those criteria the
balancing issue to fine tune the comfort is usually easy to do."
I do not know what is correct. Any opinions to verify appreciated.

existing furnace has no return air ducts? not sure about that... if it is a complete duct system (supply and return) determine their sizes, we can help calculate airflow, VS should be no problem. i have done that often
what is the model # of the existing furnace?

I had someone inspect it tonight a ac/ central heat guy who I trust. He did say it was noisy b/c the main register was too close to the master bedroom. He said that would bother him and his customers but he did say it was movable for around 2000-2200. He did say it would be no problem to replace the furnace with a variable speed furnace. The furnace is a 40,000 BTU furnace and there is 1 furnace is attic and 1 in basement.

You can also look into haveing them use or put in a better grade of registers in the home. This will help a lot on noise
