I have a 1952 home I have been redoing. The bathtub needs a new overflow plate. However, the new ones at Lowes or Home Depot are too wide ( the 2 screws). There is no reason to install a new overflow drain.

I have searched the Internet and local hardware stores. Local stores just tell me I am out luck. I don't give up that easy.

Does anyone have a suggestion where to find old overflow plates or how one might use a new one to glue on over hole (that will stay on)????

I know this is a long shot, but advice is appreciated.

Your best bet would be a home salvage/overstock center. Most large citys and towns have at least one. Look under salvage in the phone book.
I don't think glue would hold the plate, it may drip into the overflow tube or around it and cause a leak.
Good Luck and post back with the results.

Hi, If the overflow plate doesn't operate the trip bucket for the drain I have an idea that might work. They make an overflow plate with one screw in the center. Make a strap out of brass to span the overflow pipe and secure it with the treaded holes the old plate used. Drill and thread the strap in the center between the two old holes and bolt on the new overflow plate.
Good Luck Woodbutcher

Hi
Like Mike I have an older tub (possibly 50's not sure) the overrflow plate internal parts (bottom of this chain of parts is a hook) ??? are not securing to tub stopper below. Everything looks fine , I feel that I am not putting the overflow plate back in correctly ,I'm going for the"feel" method ,but no luck. Any tips would be greatly appreciated ,I came on here looking for posts concerning this and read Mike's I hope he either found a retailer or salvage place that sold him one as I think I may be in the same boat If I need to replace it.
Thanks ,Markundefined
