My fireplace seems to be drying out. Some bricks are discoloring and are very dusty to the point of being able to rub what appears to be decayed brick from them. It is not a light dust. I am currently spraying with water which seems to have stopped the decay. Any ideas, short of replacing bricks, to stop this? Please Help :(

How old are the bricks?
