I recently move into a new home a few years ago and finally decided to finish the basement. The builder ruffed in the toilet and shower drains. Now that I'm looking to have a tile shower pan I went to Home Depot to buy the shower drain where you join the rubber membrane. I noticed that all the fittings are made for 3 inch and 2 inch diameter. I went home and noticed that the ruffed in shower pipe is 1 1/2 inches.
What do I do.
Is this to code?
Can I buy a reducer ans attached the drain that way.
and my worst fear is that I have to bust up the concrete and redo the drain in 2 or 3 inch pipe. boy I hope this is not the case since I'm at the tile stage right now.
any help would be greatly appricated
thanks

Sounds like the builder roughed it for a tub,not a shower. Code in most states is 2' for showers and 1 1/2' for tubs. Sorry if I ruined your day. Good luck and post back.

Is there anything I can do. Will it work with 1 1/2 as most tubs have a shower. I really don't want to bust up the concrete at this stage in the game. Any suggestions?

If it were me...I'd go for it.I can't believe it would ever be a major issue. Good luck.
