I'm getting my furnace replaced with a new 80% one and have qot many quotes. One of the contractors recomended a "Draft Converter" rather then putting in a chimney liner. Does anyone know anything about these?

he may be talking about a sidewall powered vent hood. i prefer to line the chimney

The HVAC contractor said that the problem with the liner was there could be problems later with "birds nests" in the chimney and that's why he recommended the draft converter instead. Why do you prefer the liner?

do gas furnaces, the 80% or better type, usually include the power vent unit or do you have to buy seperate, also how high above the ground must they vent to the outside, can the vent pipe run in the building side wall and lastly what is the pipe size of the vent.

properly installed liners will not have birds nests in them, ther is a screen at the top in the cap

the sidewall vent kit is extra, it is an additional fan in the stream of the exaust (there is one in the furnace)

they are pricey, @300 wholesale, come in different sizes, i usually use the 4 inch one

must be installed above snow line, check local codes for distance to walkways, windows, etc
