Model LAT9420. Washes great but it smells like burning rubber when the spin cycle starts. I replaced the drum belt and then it tripped the motor overload. I figure it must be something binding the drum. Anything specific to look for? Am I on the right track?

Thanks

You could have something stuck under the clothes basket or the brake might not be releasing or the center bearing might be stuck and not allowing the tub to spin free. By the way the belt is meant to slip till the water is gone then slowly start to spin the load up, so the pulleys have to be shiney clean and dry. Doc E

I replaced the drum belt with a genuine Maytag belt and adjusted the pump belt per the enclosed instructions. The adjustment on the pump belt also adjusts the drum belt. Using a non-Maytag belt (Delco automotive type) caused another problem - motor overload tripped. Thanks for the reply, Doc.
