I smelled electrical smoke yesterday and today realize it came from my 3.5 year old Kenmore fridge. The plastic housing over the "overload" attached to the compressor is burned and the wire ends blackened. The fridge fan runs but of course the compressor is not coming on. Can I just replace the overload (replacement part comes with relay)? Why did this happen?
thanks

Well yes you can, BUT BUT!!! Why did it do it?????? You have to Ohm out the compressor first to make sure its ok. Are that it didnt do all this to the unit and not just the klixon. If your power is on and off a lot this could have did it . Also sometimes the wire stab on's are not tight.

I think it was a loose wire stab. I think it slipped off and arced causing the phenolic case to burn. The wire connector burned up. Have now replaced the overload/relay with an all-in-one.
