We're replacing a broken tub with a simple standing shower unit (38X38). This is going to sound idiotic...but when we opened the packaging to the new unit and read the directions we realized there are no holes on any of the surround walls where you would install the shower controls...you know to turn the water on and off? Are we supposed to cut holes in the wall to install the handles/controls for the shower? Or did we buy the wrong product?

You are correct in assuming you have to cut the holes for the controls yourself. There are too many variations in controls and shower head heights for manufacturers to pre drill them. Just figure out where you want the controls to be, then measure up to cut the holes for the shower head and control handles.Good luck and post back
