About a 4 year old Kenmore (model 17799/17792) recently (1/04) converted portable DW which has been working fine suddenly won't drain. Connected via disposal. Hose from DW to disposal stays filled with water, but no apparent sink blockage or kink in hose. Float thingie not stuck and has good response. Cleaning is taking place, but since water isn't leaving machine, dishes remain sudsy and cycle never ends. I don't hear the normal water-draining-via-the-sink sounds. Tried Sears/Kenmore websites with no luck. Won't even pull up the model numbers from the Use & Care Guide?

Left machine overnight, and it ultimately did drain out. What do I need to look for re: disposal line? It's connected with a rubber clamp device (very DIY-dense here, sorry), which is secure and not leaking. Only leaking is steam/suds from just below the main door.

Appreciate any insight. Can't afford service call, but am woefully ignorant!

Did you just replace the disposal? If so you might have forgoten to remove the knock out plug inside the tube. If not then take the drain hose off and check for blockages. Or it could be the impellers inside the DW. My real question is how did the water drain out over night if the dishwasher is off?? Your model number is misssing the prefix code ( 3 numbers that tell who made the dishwasher: 665 or 110 or 253 excetra) You should also check underneath for leakage. hope this helps. Doc E

Doc E,

Thanks for your reply. Disposal is relatively new (1/04), and initially the contractor DID forget to do the knock-out, but all's been running fine since that little faux pas was resolved.

The question about how it drained overnight has me stumped as well, but I noted this AM that the hose from DW to disposal is no longer filled with water, and no standing water in bottom of DW. Possibility, albeit unlikely, that one of my kids bailed out the reservoir after I went to bed, or turned DW on and let it run overnight. Yet the timer dial was still on the "dry" setting as it was when I gave up for the night.

The M/N I supplied is all I have -- and that's from the Kenmore booklet from original purchase. How might I determine the other digits which are apparently significant?

No leakage from underneath the DW or sink that I can ascertain. This same thing happened when I realized the contractor had not installed the disposal correctly... just "ooze" from between the bottom of the door and the access panel. Which at least tells me the float/water level mechanism is doing it's job!

How do I go about checking the disposal line for blockage? I don't have ready access to the DW-side connection, but do have access at disposal. Do I just unclamp the hose and peek down it? It's about 2 ft. long... FWIW.

Thanks again,

Doc E,

Well, interestingly, all is well. I did nothing, but opted to run the machine again yesterday and had NO overflow problems, etc. Very peculiar. Either whatever the problem is, it's intermittent... or else it cleared itself up magically.

Thanks again...
