I would like to replace a 5 foot window with a 6 foot sliding door on the first floor of a 2-storey house. The exterior is stucco.

Can you give me some advice on what problems I will run into with the framing? And with the stucco in relation to the framing?

Thanks

Catherine

Any chance you could use a 5' door? :D

If the door is no wider than the window, the job is a piece of cake (I just did an eight foot slider in about 8 hours - including breaking out stucco and rerouting some wiring.) I'll be patching the stucco next week.

If the new door is wider than the window, you're into some serious framing since you'll need a longer header. :(
