Help. We just moved in a few months ago and whenever we flush one toilet it splashes back up at us. Luckily, it does this after most of the flush is gone, but feeling a drop or two splash or seeing the drops on the seat cannot be sanitary.

Hmmm a toilet that spits.Couple questions first. Is this a 2 story house with another toilet either directly above or below it?Reason I ask is that it sounds like a plugged vent pipe. When you flush it the water rushes out of the bowl and pulls a vacuum on the vent and when it reaches the end of the water flowing out it leaves just enough air space in the toilet trap for backpressure to spit at you.If this is the case, have someone flush the other toilet while you watch the problem one. If it's a plugged vent then the water in the bowl should move. You can check the vent by going on the roof and looking for obstructions (birdsnest etc) and looking down it with a flashlight. If plugged, try to remove the cause. You can flush the vent with a garden hose but try not to push anything solid ( Kids ball etc) down further into the pipe.May have to snake it out. Good luck and post back.

I didn't expect such a quick response with the Fourth of July so close, but it's great! Our house is single story but there are two toilets. Does it still make sense to check the vent? Not sure where the vent is on the roof, but I will look.

Here's some more facts, not sure if related. The other toilet was clogged when we moved in, but I used a toilet snake about three times on it and it hasn't clogged since. Also, the dishwasher vents through the anti-siphon valve on the kitchen sink. Thanks again and happy Fourth!

You may have more than one vent. It will just be a pipe sticking up through the roof about 12 to 18" and probably 2" in diameter (codes vary from state to state).Other than the chimney,it should be the only pipe coming out of the roof.Shouldn't be any cover or anything on it so you can easily check it out.
