When I press my shift lever to go forward (or backwards) the tractor just crawls forward at a very slow speed and if it came up to a lump of dirt it will stop moving. Just before this problem I was cutting the grass and then all of a sudden I couldn't go forward. I checked underneath and the drive belt that runs from the back right wheel to the front pulley was off. I put it back on and these are the symtoms.. I don't hear any clunking from the transmission and there is plenty of fluid in there...What is the function of the idler wheel? IS it supposed to turn around all the time? Thanks for you replies...

Hello wallyk!
The idler pulley should turn all the time, unless the clutch/brake pedal is depressed. Sounds like you may have a loose/worn belt, and if the idler pulley is not turning easily, then it is probably siezing up and needs to be replaced.
