I have an older Model 70 belt drive washer. The washer has suddenly quit spinning. Looking in the back service panel while the washer is running, I can see the belt moving and all the pulleys that are involved turning. The drum doesn't turn. I don't know if it agitates or not - I didn't fill the washer with water and try it. The spin lockout switch on the door tests good and there is voltage in that circuit when the washer is running. ( I tested for AC voltage and it gave a low reading -- I don't know it that's correct or not or whether it's AC or DC voltage across that switch.

Suggestions???

Thanks,

Ron

The belt drive washers have a control magnet that pulls a cam lever over to engage the spin. The control magnet could be bad or it might not be getting 120 volts to it. From the back the control magnet is the part that is constantly moving back and forth when the washer is running. The left hand side coil moves the spin cam. Check it for resistance, it should have 500 to 700 ohms of resistance. if not its bad. Check for voltage to it when in spin with the lid closed. It should get 120 + or - . If not then the timer or wiring to the control magnet could be bad. I have seen the wires break just above the control magnet (from the constant movement). Hope this helps. Doc E

As Doc Elect. Said look into the control magnet assembly but also notice at the bottom of the plunger on the spin side there is a pin that connects them together sometimes that pin will break and everything looks as if it were working but the plunger does not lift up due to a broken pin. check that also
