Hi I'm moving into a new home and I have a lot to do. First I need to install a door at the bottom of the basement stairs. It isn't any frame work or anything just wall and space. But I need to close it off for my recording studio.
It's not an even space so I'll prob have to add drywall and I'll have to frame. Is there anywhere I can find step by step video preferrably. I'm completely green on but I'm patient and willing to do the work.

DUH!!! maybe it would be better to put it at the top of the stairs? I just thought it'd look better at the bottom.

if you put it at the top of the stairs, you may have to set it back away from the stairs a certain amount. Check with local building authority to find out how much or even IF you have to do this. I'm pretty sure here we have to set back 3 ft. (idea being, you don't want to open the door and immediately be at the edge of the stairs...i.e. - FALLING DOWN the stairs)especially if the door opens away (over the stairs)...most people expect to have a landing and, at least I, would be surprised by the lack of one...just MHO. None-the-less, check with local auth., thats not just MY opinion, but the opinion of many I've seen on this forum. :)

Regardless of whether you put the door at the top or the bottom of thw stairway, you'll have to have a landing, minumum 3' X 3'!! Confirm that with your local bldg. dept. though -- they may be enforcing a different set of codes than I build under.
