I can never seem to get my stuffing lumpless. Are there any secrets to stuffing pillows without any lumps?

the best way is to buy a pillow form and measure it then make an exact pillow for it. but you can also buy batting that comes in sheets and put a couple of layers inside the pillow and then stuff with the loose batting inside the sheets of batting. i've even sewed the sheets of batting to the inside of my pillow to make sure they didn't move and then stuffed the middle.

What are you stuffing, cushions or pillows? If it's a pillow, the rule of thumb is to get a soft dacron or even better down or feather forms and the forms should be 2" larger than the pillow. If you are stuffing a cushion made of foam wrapped in dacron, the inside foam, not counting the dacron wrap, should be 3/4" larger than the cushion cover. To stuff a cushion with a foam core, fold it in half, use a lot of strength to stuff it so you don't pop the zipper and then play with it to get it in the corners, the seams should run down the edge of the cushion. If needed use soft dacron for the corners but if the fit is perfect, that shouldn't be necessary.

If you are stuffing closed cushions (removable cushions) with foam there are a few handy ways to stuff them. The easiest and most fun is....Place the cushion in a heavy plastic trash bag, close the top of the bag around a vacuum cleaner hose, and vacuum all air out of the cushion. The cushion will flatten out considerably making it possible to slide it into the cover and arrange the corners. When you're ready...open the plastic bag and watch it grow!. You can leave the plastic if the cushion is for outdoor or "wet" use, or you can remove the plastic before closing the cover if for dry area use. My mother watched me use this method and laughed the whole time I was vacuuming! :D

Thanks for the tip. Here is another tip, but not as fun or clever as the vacuum trick, go to an uplostery supplier and get spray silicon, spray it on the cushion, that helps it slide into the cover a little easier.

I read this post and thought - HA - I'll tell em bout the vacuum trick - but I see someone beat me to it! Works like a charm!
