How can I get rid of the stinky smell of finished (painted) wood? This smell comes from baseboard, trim, wood window frames, etc. Painting does not seem to cover the odor. Is there any solution to this problem? ( It's driving my wife crazy)

What is the smell?

Is the "wood" really wood or MDF? If it's MDF (or a similar product) the smell comes from the formaldehyde (sp?) and that will go away...........eventually. Some wood species (e.g. pine) can also have a pretty strong oder but paint usually hides it.

The only answer I know of is to open windows and let the oder go away.
