I have a 21 year old set of dexter knobs on my front doors that I wish to replace. Only problem is that I cannot remove them. Found the slot on the inside knobs but they will not budge. Tried to push down on the slot without any success. Any suggestions on how to remove these knobs will be greatly appreciated.

Hi pj17
A 21 year old lock might need a bit of force.
The retaining pin is located on the knob where it narrows. It is on the side closest to the door edge and if it's not responding to your attempt, try spraying some oil into the hole first, then tapping it with a pin punch or something else equally as strong. Pull on the knob as you depress that retainer because sometimes the retainer movement is minimal.

Thank you. Found the "push pin", for want of another term, and was able to remove the dummy knob and backplate. Will attempt the locking knob when I get closer to painting day.
