hi, i'm a first time home owner. when i bought the townhouse, the walls looked great until they started moving out and scratching it here and there. plus when all the painting is removed, i noticed a lot of patches here and there that they fixed. the worse thing is that the patches are bright white, while the wall is more like a cream white color.
anyhoo, so i am looking at this Wagner Airless. I'm stuck in between choosing which one to go with.
Wagner® 2800 PSI Paint Crew® 1/2 HP Sprayer (http://homedepot98home.crossmediaservices.com/homedepot/default.aspx?action=detail&storeid=2399270&rapid=0&pagenumber=0&listingid=-2098028990&offerid=&ref=%2fhomedepot%2fdefault.aspx%3faction%3dbrowsecategoryl2%26storeid%3d2399270%26CatTreeID%3d11544%26L2CatID%3d11544%26StartRow%3d19) vs. Wagner® 2400 PSI Wide Shot Power Painter (http://homedepot98home.crossmediaservices.com/homedepot/default.aspx?action=detail&storeid=2399270&rapid=0&pagenumber=0&listingid=-2098028986&offerid=&ref=%2fhomedepot%2fdefault.aspx%3faction%3dbrowsecategoryl2%26storeid%3d2399270%26CatTreeID%3d11544%26L2CatID%3d11544%26StartRow%3d19)
I know that the price is very different, but i'm wondering if teh 2400PSi will be sufficient enough. Another question I have is.. how wide of a spray will it be? will it be messy? i need to know whether or not i should mask off all the areas with newspaper before i spray.
i was thinking perhaps i can use rollers for the edges of the cabinet or so.. and the spray the rest. this project will be downstairs, kitchen, living room, stair ways, hall way, 2 rooms, 2 bathrooms... so how many gallons??
sorry for the long post.. but i'm a newb and need help! thanks!

I would choose the paint crew. The hand helds are useless. Although the output on the paint crew is smaller than a pro painters preference they will work fine and will be faster than using a roller after you learn to use it effectively. I like the homeright paint stick roller (25$) as an inexpensive way to quickly paint if money is the issue. With the airless EVERYTHING! needs to be covered (you can use old bedsheets or thin plastic) , investing in a masking machine (3m handhelds-$30) helps, and learning to use a sprayshield.

damn.. really? i was thinking the same thing that with airless everything needs to be covered. perhaps i should take ur advice and just use the rollers instead. guess it'll take a while for me to paint then. i'm just worried about leaving streak marks on the wall after it drys. are there any kind of paint that won't leave streak marks? and should i get those single coat paint or should i paint two coats?

With a sprayer, everyting definitely needs to be covered, and newspaper won't be sufficient.
The single-coat paints are a joke, assume two coats for almost all applications.

thanks, glad to know that in advance. i think i'm going to stick to the rollers for inside use.

A tape machine applies a 6" piece of paper with tape on one edge to mask off windows, door handles, ceiling lights, etc.. Newspaper will work but its time consuming to apply the tape. The tarps etc. are for furniture and the floor. If your gun work is accurate- 6" is plenty of margin. Then theres always ammonia and or a razor blade for messes. No pain no gain. Some jobs have an extreme amount of masking and negate the advantage of spraying but few jobs fall into this category. lol.....jeff
